Voting in local government elections is voluntary, therefore participation should indicate interest and awareness

Explanation of measure

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission (TEC) conducts elections for Tasmanian Councils. The elector’s roll is largely drawn from the State’s House of Assembly roll. Voting papers are posted to electors with voting instructions and a reply paid envelope. The proportion of dispatched voting papers returned before the close of the poll is reported by the TEC after each round of local government elections
