In the year 2001, an estimated 6.8 thousand Tasmanians were unemployed and had not had a job that had lasted for 2 weeks or more in the previous twelve months.

Why do we use this Measure?

Long-term unemployed are among the most economically disadvantaged members of our society.

Explanation of measure

The measure is an average of 12 consecutive monthly estimates from the Labour Force survey. It is an estimate of the number of long-term unemployed persons in December, rounded to the nearest hundred.
