In 2006, an estimated 36.7% of the Tasmanian population aged 18 or more said they had opportunities to have a real say on important issues either all of the time or most of the time.

Why do we use this Measure?

People need to believe that they can have a say in decision-making processes before effective participation will occur

Explanation of measure

The measure is an estimate derived from the General Social Survey. It is the estimate of the Tasmanian population aged 18 or more who said they had opportunities to have a real say on important issues either all of the time or most of the time. This draft benchmark is currently being developed by the Progress Board. Draft targets have been established and recommendations to complete the benchmark will be put to Parliament for approval later this year.
