In the year 2000, there were 4 742 hectares of land that was owned or managed by the Aboriginal community.

Why do we use this Measure?

Land ownership and management are central to Aboriginal culture and to achieving reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples.

Explanation of measure

This is a measure of the area of freehold land passed back to the Aboriginal community in accordance with the Aboriginal Lands Act 1995.
