Why do we use this Measure?

Awareness of the benefits of a multicultural society should increase respect for our multicultural heritage

Explanation of measure

The measure is percentage of Tasmanian public schools that had integrated multicultural perspectives into their curricula. The count of the number of schools that have integrated is based on data collected through the annual Department of Education Corporate Report Survey. A positive assessment of curriculum integration is based on responses to two questions, i.e. whether there was a whole-school approach to integrating multicultural perspectives into the curriculum and whether multicultural education was integrated into the SOSE or other curriculum. Schools who do not answer positively to these questions address multicultural perspectives in a variety of ways including celebrating multicultural events and specific purpose weeks or using community members from different cultures to support curriculum activities.
