As at 30th June 2000, 33.98% of the estimated Tasmanian population was between 15 and 39 years of age. This compared with an Australia-wide proportion of 36.54%.

As our population ages, it is important to retain our young people to ensure continued population growth and economic prosperity

Explanation of measure

The measure is the proportion of the total Tasmanian population that is in 15-39 year old age group. For this measure, the Tasmanian proportion is compared with the Australia-wide proportion.
