During the year ending on the 30th June 2000, among each 1,000 Tasmanians aged 15 to 29, 70.2 left Tasmania for an interstate or overseas destination for 12 months or more.

Why do we use this Measure?

Increased opportunities should lead to fewer young people leaving Tasmania for longer than 12 months. By creating greater opportunities in Tasmania, young people may be encouraged to stay.

Explanation of measure

The measure is the number of Tasmanians per 1,000 aged 15 to 29 who leave Tasmania for an interstate or overseas destination for 12 months or more.
