Why do we use this Measure?

Tasmania’s public housing system should be responsive to those in greatest need.

Explanation of measure

For the purpose of setting priorities, Housing Tasmania uses a housing assessment system to determine a public housing applicant\\\'s level of need. Priority points are allocated to an applicant based on assessments of the adequacy, affordability and appropriateness of their current housing arrangements. Following points allocation, an applicant may be in one of four categories. The highest needs (Category 1) applicants are those with assessed points equal to or in excess of 35. Category 2 applicants are those with assessed points of 25 to 34. The waiting time for priority applicants is the number of weeks between the date the applicant was assessed as Category 1 or 2 and the date of being housed. The waiting time all priority applicants is the average of the waiting times of all Category 1 and 2 applicants who are housed during any year ending on 30 June.
