An estimated 54.4% of people aged 15 or more who were the primary carer of a disabled person in the year 2003, were providing an average 20 hours or more a week care.

Why do we use this Measure?

We should recognise the weight of responsibility associated with long-term caring and provide support where this responsibility becomes onerous.

Explanation of measure

The measure is an estimate from an ABS household survey. It is an estimate of the proportion of people aged 15 or more who were the primary carer of a disabled person who are providing an average weekly hours of care of 20 or more.
