At the time of 2001 National Health Survey, an estimated 14.0% of the Tasmanian population aged 18 or more were assessed as having a level of psychological distress as high or very high.

Why do we use this Measure?

Health professionals regard self-assessment as a good indicator of people’s actual health status. High levels of psychological distress indicate potential cases of anxiety disorders and depression in the community

Explanation of measure

The measure is an estimate derived from the National Health Survey. It is the estimate of the proportion of the Tasmanian population aged 18 or more who were assessed as having a level of psychological distress as high or very high.
