Explanation of measure

The estimated crime rates are based on responses to a sample survey of Tasmanian households. The rate is calculated as the proportion of all Tasmanians aged 15 or more who, in the twelve months prior to the survey, had been the victim of a robbery or assault or lived in a household that had been subjected to a break-in, attempted break-in or motor vehicle theft. Victims also include females aged 18 or more who had been the victims of sexual assault.
