In March 2001, Tasmanian businesses expectation for the Tasmanian economy in the forthcoming twelve months was estimated to be trending at 41.9. This compared with the expectation by Tasmanian businesses for the National economy of 42.9.

Business confidence is a reflection of economic performance

Explanation of measure

The measures are trended estimates from the quarterly Tasmanian Survey of Business Expectations. The estimates are based on survey responses from Tasmanian firms of their expectations of the performance of both the Tasmanian and Australian economies in the following 12 months. The quarterly series is presented as trended index points. Index points below fifty indicate an overall worsening expectation.
