Why do we use this Measure?

Recreational water quality is one measure of environmental quality

Explanation of measure

The measure is the proportion of regularly monitored primary contact (swimming, diving etc) aquatic recreation sites that fail to meet with the National Guideline value for such activities. Previously, the measure was reported as the number of sites that breached the body immersion standard. However, the number of sites tested each year is variable, therefore this measure has been amended to reflect the proportion of breaches against the total number of sites tested. Targets have also been amended consistent with this approach.
