Department of Primary Industry and Water

Why do we use this Measure?

The retention of native vegetation is one indicator of sustainably managed natural resources

Explanation of measure

The extent estimate of native vegetation cover is derived using the provisional TASVEG 2005 extent dataset. While this dataset reflects the extent of native vegetation as at 2005, it is currently also the best available estimate for native vegetation for June 2007. The final TASVEG 2005 extent dataset will improve the accuracy of the provisional dataset by replacing Landsat-derived polygons with polygons from high-resolution imagery
